Congenital anterior urethral diverticulum in children: case series and review of the literature

Abstract Background Congenital anterior urethral diverticulum (CAUD) is a rare condition in children. This can present at any age; however, it more commonly identified infants and older The patient may with difficulty micturition, dribbling of urine, poor urinary stream, or tract infection. Children large spongiosal support also complain cystic ventral penile swelling during micturition. Methods In this series, we report seven such cases congenital treated over period 12 years (2008–2020). All presented to the Pediatric Surgery Department dysuria, recurrent infection, and/or fluctuant swelling. They were further evaluated retrograde urethrography micturating cysto-urethrogram cysto-urethroscopy. Results Three had valves that managed by cystoscopic fulguration valves. Surprisingly, all these three concomitant posterior valves, while other four relatively larger saccular required excision primary reconstruction. Conclusions secondary be associated as seen our case series. Surgeons should aware association, both fulgurated same sitting. A requires urethroplasty definitive procedure.
